Oral Surgery

Oral surgery here at Brookhaven Dental Associates can be performed to treat a variety of issues, including tooth decay and infection, trauma-related injuries, oral cancer and tumors.

Oral Surgery is a medical specialty concerned with conditions affecting any part of the oral cavity, including the maxillofacial area, and with diseases and injuries of the structures in, around, or under the tongue. It includes diagnosis and non-surgical treatment.

An oral surgeon is someone who performs surgery within the mouth. The surgery can be very specialized (specific for removing wisdom teeth, fixing same-day tooth implants, reconstructing jawbones, etc.) or can include all of the above general surgeries plus more. Surgery can be performed by specialist dentists like endodontists, periodontists, and prosthodontists.

Some of the most common surgeries for teeth and jaw include:

  • Impacted wisdom teeth

  • Gum graft

  • Tooth implants

  • Maxillofacial surgery

  • Root canal

  • Jaw and teeth repair following an injury
